March 2010

Our two little Leopard cubs, Shakira and Ombeli, are growing rapidly and we probably won’t be able to call them “little” for much longer! Since they came to N/a’an ku sê just 11 weeks ago, their health and strength has been hugely restored. It’s an incredible transformation from small and malnourished cubs to playful, adventurous and healthy looking cubs.

Their coats are glossy and full and their personalities are really starting to shine through. Shakira is particularly playful and is beginning to show more of a hunter instinct than her brother. They both love playing with their long snake (a material snake not a real one!) and when they’re out on Rudie and Marlice’s patio they clamber all over the patio furniture like an obstacle course until it all topples over onto them!

Ombeli is taking vitamins every day for his cloudy eye. It’s difficult at this stage to determine how much permanent damage to his vision will be caused by this cloudy eye, but it doesn’t seem to deter him much!

Shakira is also being given extra calcium to help strengthen her hind leg as she has developed a small limp, which could be down to a calcium deficiency. So hopefully she’ll be back to normal in no time.

We’re so pleased the two cubs have taken so well to their new home and it's a joy for us to have them here.
