Keanu and Timbila - October update

Keanu
Keanu and Timbila remain the fiercest animals at N/a'an ku se Wildlife Sanctuary. Their ferocious nature continues to awe all who visit them.

Over the last year we have noticed that the two leopards have enjoyed a healthy appetite, gobbling up their red meat with determination. They are fed on daily basis by Tour Guides Balon or Solomon and their meal usually consists of game, beef, horse or donkey.

Timbila
As a result of their large appetite and the fact that in their enclosure they have relatively little exercise, the boys have put on quite a bit of weight and their bellies are hanging low near the ground!

Timbila
We have therefore decided that it is time they are put on a diet! Normally, carnivores in the wild would hunt every few days, feed off their kill and go several days without food. We are trying to get the leopards out of a routine of eating on a daily basis which is more reflective of how they would live in the wild.

Timbila
They are now fed every other day and are adapting well to the new diet, albeit the first few days proved difficult and probably quite confusing for the leopards when they waited and waited and no one came with any food for them! But now their appetites reflect their new feeding routine - perhaps in your next update you may see photos of our slimlined leopards.
