Duma April 2012

Our stunning Duma has an admirer! We have spotted the tracks of a wild male leopard outside her camp frequently over the last few months. He stalks the fence line, clearly trying to flirt with Duma. If those fences weren't there we just wonder might happen...

Duma's camp has turned lush and green after this year's rainy season. She looks beautiful surrounded by the green grass and yellow flowers. However, all this rain means the grass is very overgrown so it was time once again for some de-bushing!

We laid out some tasty and enticing meat in a transport cage to lure her in and once safely tucked inside the cage, our Wildlife coordinators and volunteers entered the camp.

Watching on with curiosity

We cleared the camp of any bones as well as pulling grass from close to the fence line as overgrown foliage can interfere with the electricity. We also gave her waterhole a thorough clean - emptying all the water and scrubbing it clean before refilling it. We have a water tap which we turn on from outside her camp and it fills up the waterhole. However the sun turns the water green with algae and so every now and then it's important we scrub the waterhole clean for her.

The bones we collected in her camp

A happy Duma
