Keanu and Timbila have been enjoying quite
the show recently as the watchtower next to their camp is being rebuilt. We have a security tower positioned directly next to the camp where our Security guards and volunteers sleepout over night to look out for poachers or any other activity. The safety of our animals are our main priority and our leopards are very precious.
Whilst the workers have been reconstructing the watchtower, Keanu and Timbila have
been spotted stalking the workers. The pair pace the fence line intrigued by the activity outside. Our guess is
they’re hoping for a surprise snack!
These two lucky leopards just had their
camp cleaned as well. As part of a three-day project undertaken by the staff
and volunteers, the entire camp has been searched for any bones and other
rubbish. The only way to safely enter the camp is to immobilise the leopards and so Rudie darted and sedated them and put them into
a temporary cage.
The Wildlife Coordinators and volunteers then walked the entire camp, picking up anything that shouldn't be in there - it's important to give these camps a clean every now and then.
This also provided a good opportunity for us to give them a health check, examining their physical condition and welfare. It was during this time that it came to everyone’s
attention that Keanu is missing an ear! The blame has fallen on Timbila, as the two strong males frequently fight with each other but no
one knows for certain what happened, it's impossible to know what these two get up to when we're not watching!
